HDPE Tank Biofilters
High density polyethylene (HDPE) Tank treatment units from Waterloo Biofilter are constructed of a very high strength, durable, and seamlessly blow-moulded high-density polyethylene tank. HDPE Tanks are pre-plumbed at our factory, filled with the Waterloo Biofilter filtration medium, and shipped to site fully assembled. Treated effluent is pumped from the HDPE Tank to a small, shallow soil disposal system. HDPE Tanks operate in recirculation mode for increased nitrogen removal. These units are lightweight for ease of transport, and come pre-assembled for an easy, ‘dig-and-drop’ installation. The only moving parts are two high-quality, energy efficient 1/2 horsepower effluent pumps that operate intermittently throughout the day.
Shed Biofilters
Shed Biofilters have a base constructed of permanent wood foundation board, are spray foam insulated for winter operation, and are clad in attractive, stained, weather sealed wood siding. Sheds are designed to work in the most difficult of sites; they are installed above ground to avoid bedrock and high water table problems, and they have the smallest advanced septic system footprint fully approved in Ontario with their compact design and no distribution piping required in the disposal bed.
Sheds are installed directly on top of a small, shallow area bed that easily accepts and disperses the treated Biofilter effluent it receives by gravity. Sheds reduce excavation depths, require only a single plumbing connection to hookup onsite, and significantly reduce installation time and complexity. No electrical components are required at the Sheds so they can be located away from the house and waterfront.
Shed Biofilters are the best septic system solution for homeowners wishing to preserve more of their trees and reduce raised mounds. The only moving part is a single high-quality, energy efficient 1/2 horsepower effluent pump that operates intermittently throughout the day. Sheds generally operate in single-pass mode, but can also be modified to operate in recirculation mode for increased nitrogen removal.

Flat bed Biofilters
Waterloo Biofilter Flat Beds are constructed of strong yet lightweight shells containing the patented Biofilter filter media. Flat Bed treatment units are modular; additional Flat Beds can be installed in parallel or series to increase the total treatment capacity of the septic system. Wastewater is dosed to the Flat Beds via a small pump chamber with an electric pump. Treated effluent gravity-drains out the bottom of the Flat Beds and flows directly into a disposal bed beneath.
Flat Beds are installed flush to grade and landscaped into the property with the supplied mulch or other porous covering. No distribution piping is required in the disposal bed resulting in a smaller system footprint and faster installation. With their low profile, Flat Beds can be installed in areas of high groundwater or bedrock without destroying the aesthetics of the property. Flat Beds operate in a single-pass mode.
